Recreating the Year of the Dragon

Recreating the Year of the Dragon

Room 1 have celebrated the Chinese New Year by recreating dragons in class.

Room 1 have been using the term focus of kotahitanga for their latest project. To include the new mandarin teacher Alleria in their learning, Room 1 chose to find out more about the Chinese culture and celebrated the Chinese New Year and The Year of The Dragon, by creating their own dragons. They used egg cartons, feathers, pipe cleaners and pom poms to make their own creations. Mrs Bopp carefully helped ākonga with the glue gun parts.

Next week they will be following the tradition of giving red envelopes containing cash (play money of course!) known as hongbao in Mandarin and laisee in Cantonese These gifts are presented at holidays such as Chinese New Year.
