Adapting Amidst the Ice: The Resilient Journey of TCAS Cross Country!

Adapting Amidst the Ice: The Resilient Journey of TCAS Cross Country!

After a late and icy start, it was great to have whānau and community on the school grounds for cross country. The final results are in and it's time to celebrate our champions and discover which house takes out bragging rights this year (everyone probably knows right)!

Cross-country was scheduled to be held on Tuesday the 8th of August at Andrew Hollander's farm but after a very mild winter and a bit of bragging about the deep south's sunny days, the skies clouded over and the rain fell heavily for 3 days straight. The senior PE group aka the organizers of 2023s TCAS cross-country said- no worries mate, we'll just hold it on Thursday the 10th. Fab! The rain stopped ..... and the hail/snow started. School had a delayed start of 9.50am and the first race began at 10.30! Although slightly modified with very short notice, and the event now being held at school, all ages participated and a lot of fun was had. Little Hoiho joined us after lunch for an obstacle race which was definitely a highlight for all to watch.

Nora took out the house points at a massive 83 with six first placings, five second placings and four third placings. Manuka came in 18 points behind at 55 comprising of three first places, two seconds and three thirds. Coming in third place, ( or as some might call it - last), was Surat with 55 house points! Three first places, two seconds and three thirds. Participation and completion are always encouraged so students can feel that real sense of achievement when they try something hard and the house points recognise this. Thanks and appreciation to Sarah Cairns, Fiona Wilkinson and Nat Harrex, for a well-run event, also to the huge whānau support and of course the athletes themselves!
