Settling in to Room 1

Settling in to Room 1

Students in Room 1 have had a great week settling back into their learning environment!

Monday started with two new friends joining us, Makenzie Soar and Isobel Thompson-Mende, who are settling in well.

We used playdough as our introduction to Fractions and learned about halves and quarters. While others got creative with the playdough that Mrs Bopp had bought, Baiyok and Isobel helped their teacher make a huge batch of playdough! This has been enjoyed all week!

On Tuesday we read a story about a green furry creature found in a shed and how Finn helped to find his mother. The students were very creative with their story illustrations - some made posters as Finn did (as you will see in one of the photos, students are taking a detailed look at the illustrations in the book when creating their own illustrations).

Other photos related to fine motor skills and maths activities. One photo shows Darcy and Felix popping marbles through and measuring how far the marble travels. Lily and Isobel were matching numerals to cards with images. Lily and Harper found creative ways to use the trampoline with Cuisenaire rods, dinosaur rocks, trees and I loved their splash of sparkle with some ‘gems’ and beads!

Mitchell is enjoying learning about fractions and the magnetic apples that ‘snap’ into halves and quarters.

Thursday’s highlight was visiting the Owaka Museum and learning about Moa. Students were SO well behaved and were a credit to the values of our school!
