Moa hunting at TCAS

Moa hunting at TCAS

Room 2, Room 3, Room 19, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 have all been creating Moa themed art. There are a wide range of sculptures of moa, eggs, nests, and diorama nearing completion. Students will be having an exhibition of student work based on Moa theme at the Owaka Museum Community Gallery starting at the beginning of July.

Room 2 have been busy working on Moa inspired artworks this term. First, they used the papercraft template by Glenn Jones to make Moa, then we developed them into small sculptures and created a diorama showing the diversity of Moa. This would have been an interesting sight to encounter! They then created some two-dimensional artworks using vivid, crayon and dye and were inspired by the book “There’s a Moa in the Moonlight” by Dawn McMillan and illustrated by Nikki Slade Robinson. This book introduces readers to other extinct species as well as Moa. In these pictures you can see a Huia, some Laughing Owls, a South Island Goose, a Koreke (New Zealand Quail) and a Kawekaweau (New Zealand Lizard), and there might be other creatures hidden too if you have a closer look!
