Highlights of fielding a hockey team

The Catlins Area School has its very own social six-a-side secondary hockey team. This team is entered into the Dunedin 14 week competition, for the first time in - well no one can actually remember because it's been that long! In previous years TCAS has had very little interest so students have joined other teams/schools to play and compete. Every Tuesday afternoon Fiona Wilkinson and Nat Harrex accompany the ten players to various turfs around Otago.

It is so awesome to go to the turf in Dunedin and see the Catlins' colours out there battling sticks with South Otago High School, Taieri College, Columba College, and others. Currently halfway through the draw, the team are sitting in silver position on the table, which is an outstanding effort!

Having 10 players we fall slightly short of playing on a full turf with a full team of 14 (11 aside). However after success stories of wins and team debriefs at school on a Wednesday, we are gaining momentum within the secondary school and are determined to enter a full team into the next round.

Currently the hockey clothing and gear is looking a little lackluster. The team's current mission is to fundraise enough money for a full team uniform and goalie kit (which is actually non existent) to look the part. The fundraiser is Bonus Ball Bonanza. It's simple to support and win! Tickets are $20 per number, and the draw lasts 5 weeks. Drawn every Wednesday and Saturday, commencing as soon as all tickets are sold. If your number is called out on that night as the bonus ball number on LOTTO, you win $40!

Please message TCAS Sports facebook page, pop into the office or ask one of our players. Ticket money can be paid into the school account and referenced as “hockey”. (The Catlins Area School- 03-1734-0006633-000) Thanks for you support.

Keep up the great work TCAS sticks and a massive thank you to Fiona and Nat who give up their Tuesday evening to drive, coach, cheer, feed and support our team.
