Fever Pitch for students at a FIFA Football Game!"

The Catlins Area School Year 7 to 13 students were fortunate to be given tickets to attend a FIFA Womens' Football World Cup match in Dunedin. Mrs Bichan, Miss Currall, Mrs V and Kerri Nakajima accompanied 17 students to the South Africa vs Argentina game.

It was a very exciting day for all of us. Arriving by bus, the first stop was the Fan Zone in the Octagon. Activities included art and crafts (Sock-er Fans sock-puppet making, poi making, facepainting, and the Octahedron colouring-in project), sports activations (Footpool and Goalie Challenge) and a Game On!. Game On is a 'Women in Sport' interactive photo exhibition and football-themed photo booth. The group then walked the 'Fan Mile' to the stadium with masses of fans.

Seated opposite 'The Zoo' students were seated behind the goal and watched as South Africa surged ahead in the first half to a comfortable 2-0 lead. Argentina fought back ending the game with a 2-2 draw. Those watching behind at school could even see the TCAS group live on TV! Thanks to FIFA and the DCC for giving this opportunity to our students completely free of charge!
