Academic Excellence

Recent statistics show that The Catlins Area School is the highest performing school for Academic results in both Otago and Southland, and the equal highest performing school in New Zealand. You can read about that in the article, Academic Excellence, which appeared in The Clutha Leader.

NZASA Conference: Wellington

Principal Gavin Kidd and Deputy Principal Allan Jon will be presenting on the implementation of the educational futures scheme - 'Secondary Futures' at the annual NZASA Conference in Wellington this week. Amongst other themes their multiple presentations will consider the use of cutting edge computer tools such as 3D Gaming software to improve educational outcomes, pathways to create more opportunities for students, ICT integration with school curriculum and the development of New Zealand wide learning networks to enhance the future career prospects of students throughout the country.

The Science Newspaper: Media Coverage in Europe

The Science Newspaper in Romaia has run a story about recent curriculum developments at The Catlins Area School - focussing on our industry partnerships and eLearning programme for Aviation. It is wonderful to see such an interest in the work we are doing to help students achieve.

Learning@School 09

Mr Jon was asked to present at the national Learning@School 09 Conference for eLearning in Rotorua. Mr Jon made a presentation on 'ICT Assisted Project Based Learning' in conjunction with Miranda Satterthwaite of Christchurch Boys High School. He also demonstrated technologies to assist teaching and learning through the use of 3D modelling during a presentation made by Ministry of Education staff Rochelle Jensen and Fiona Grant, titled 'Nurturing a Richer Understanding of eLearning'.
