Set
within the scenic Catlins region of eouth-eastern New Zealand, The Catlins Area School is a challenging, exciting and supportive school where students from all parts of the world are valued and respected. There is a senior staff member in charge of overseas students and special programmes are run for overseas students when necessary.
At The Catlins Area School, we believe that it is fundamentally important for all students to learn and develop in a safe school and town, where they are encouraged to strive for intellectual excellence. The Catlins Area School provides skilled effective and experienced teachers, clear rules and boundaries, great facilities and a warm family environment.
We focus on the 'development of the whole student', by providing opportunities for students to develop their understanding of the Arts, their academic abilities, and their health and well being through sport and pastoral care.
International students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of exciting programes at The Catlins Area School. Some of the popular programes include Outdoor Pursuits activities - such as Ski Trips and mountian biking along The Rail Trail -, international Tourism and Aviation studies, New Zealand Geography and developing English language skills.
Health and Travel Insurance
Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are:
• A resident or citizen of Australia; or
• A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
• The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more.
If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. International Students must take out a policy that will cover the cost of medical treatment in New Zealand for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. This can be arranged by the Deputy Principal of The Catlins Area School, your agent or yourself before you arrive in New Zealand.
