The Catlins River Raft Race
The Catlins Area School holds an annual River Raft Race on the Owaka River. Students are encouraged to work in teams to design and develop their rafts during Technology classes, and prepare for the event.

The race is a great community event that attracts many spectators and allows our students, teachers and community members alike to display their TCAS School Spirit!. In 2007 there were a wide range of teams entered into the race, including a joint entry between the local Police Station and the TCAS Staff, with the competitors starting the race on the receiving end of flour and water and various less pleasant substances from the spectators at the landing bridge. We look forward to the next Catlins River Raft Race on November 25th 2008.

The Prime Lamb Competition
The Catlins Area School Prime Lamb Competition has also been a community favorite - with a large percentage of local farmers participating. This event is a fantastic way to celebrate the agricultural character of our community.
